Landfill closed early

The Black Hawk County Landfill closed early due to high winds on 3/25/22.

We ask all industrial and commercial businesses to please keep your trash containers accessible, and we will pick up everything that we are able to as quickly as possible, today and tomorrow.

Residential customers – Due to the high winds, to avoid trash blowing all over, we will be picking up extra next week if you were not picked up this morning prior to the high winds.

We apologize for the delay in service and will pick up as quickly as we are able.

Increase of rates

Due to rising costs, such as fuel and supplies, we’ve had to raise the rates of our recurring accounts.

We know no one likes to hear their bill is increasing but we hope you’ll understand that this increase will help us to continue to provide quality and reliable services to you while still keeping rates affordable.

A new process was used to facilitate this increase and as such there may be some discrepancies. If you have any questions on your bill please give us a call and we can review it with you.

This increase goes into effect March 1, 2022.

Freezing Temperatures

Due to the forecasted temperatures expected in the morning on Wednesday, January 26, 2022, We will be getting a late start to allow for the temperature to raise to safe operating temperatures. This may cause some collection delays.

We ask you to please be patient while this cold snap hits. We will resume normal route collections once conditions are safe.

If your trash or recycling is not picked up Wednesday, please leave it accessible for Thursday collection.

Delay on rural waterloo route

There were approximately 70 stops on the Rural Waterloo route that will be delayed from Friday onto Saturday. We apologize for the inconvenience and ask you to please keep your containers/bags accessible for early morning collection on Saturday, January 22.

The streets affected are as follows –

E Griffith Rd
Hammond Rd
W Schrock Rd
Ansborough Ave
Washburn Rd
Kimball Ave
Douglas Dr
Eagle Rd
W Ave
E Tama Rd
Hess Rd
Tarrymore Dr
Wedgewood Rd
E Orange Rd

Landfill closed 1/5/22

The Black Hawk County Landfill has closed today, January 5, 2022 due to High Winds.

Our Residential collections will remain on schedule as expected.

Some of our Commercial and Industrial routes may see a delay. We will run these routes as soon as the landfill is open again.

We apologize for the interruption in today’s collection.

Happy Holidays

From the entire team at Black Hawk Waste, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Fantastic New Year!

To our customers, friends, neighbors, and family, we want to thank you for your support and faith in us. May your holiday be blessed with the love and warmth of your friends and family.

No makeup day

Because Christmas and New Years is on Saturday, there will not be a delay in route collections. However, it is our intention to have as many of our drivers off by noon on Friday as able. Due to this, we ask you to please set your containers out for collection the night before so they may begin collection at 5 a.m. without interruption.

Our office will be open until noon.

High winds – Landfill closing early 12/15/21

Due to the forecasted high winds, the Black Hawk County Landfill will be closing at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 15, and is expecting to re-open at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 16.

For residents in areas with forecasted high winds, we will collect refuse out to the curb as promptly as we are able. However, due to the high winds, we recommend if you have the availability to avoid trash from being blown around in the wind to hold your refuse until the next collection, we will pick up additional trash.

Our drivers will not be able to collect trash that is blown around in the wind if your container is tipped over due to the high wind.

We will be collecting all customers as normal until the landfill closes and likely for a little while after. If your trash is not collected on your scheduled service day, please leave your trash accessible for pickup the following day.

This closure will affect the collection schedule for commercial and industrial routes on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
